Ep. 129 – Janna Kroleski, DPM, FACFAS , Arizona College of Podiatric Medicine/2nd Gen Podiatrist

In this episode of Dean’s Chat, Dr.’s Jeffrey Jensen and Dr. Johanna Richey are joined by Dr. Janna Kroleski, a colleague from the Arizona College of Podiatric Medicine (AZCPM). They discuss Dr. Kroleski’s journey in podiatric medicine, starting from her undergraduate studies to attending podiatric medical school at the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine, through residency, and now at AZCPM!  

Dr. Kroleski shares how she entered into podiatric medicine as a 2nd generation podiatrist.   She directs courses in both the Podiatric Medicine and Podiatric Surgery curriculum, and practices in the Foot and Ankle Center at Midwestern University’s Multispecialty Clinic. 

We also discuss work/life balance by juggling practice, teaching, and family responsibilities. 

Dr. Jana Kraleski, Dr. Jensen, and Dr. Richey emphasize the significance of confidence as a crucial trait sought after in student interviews, particularly in the field of podiatric medicine. She highlighted that confidence serves as a clear indicator of a student’s dedication to preparing for the interview and their seriousness about pursuing a career in podiatric medicine. Dr. Kraleski noted that confidence is demonstrated through a student’s ability to answer questions with assurance and readiness, showcasing their commitment and passion for the profession.

In this episode, the doctors discuss the many career opportunities within the podiatry field. Podiatrists have the option to specialize in surgical procedures, ranging from minor interventions to complex surgeries. Dr. Kraleski highlighted that those aspiring to be surgeons can fulfill their many types of goals within the field of podiatric medicine.

Dr. Kraleski highlights that podiatrists can choose from various settings, from busy surgical practices to structured nine-to-five clinics, enabling them to accommodate family responsibilities and personal interests. She shares her experience of navigating pregnancy and motherhood while pursuing her career in podiatry. This conversation emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive environment for individuals choosing to start a family during their educational or professional journey.
